My Experience as a VC Analyst @Cathay Innovation

Cathay Innovation is a global venture capital fund invested in US, Asia and Europe, supporting digital entrepreneurs with powerful value-creation strategy and offering business opportunities thanks to the strong relationships with strategic corporates (many of whom come from the CAC40).

The first fund Global Innovation I launched in 2015 (€300m) has been a success with investments like PinDuoDuo, Chime, Glovo and Ledger. After the Inno II fund launched in 2018 (€650m), the €1B Inno III fund was deployed mainly in Series A-B with tickets of €5-30m at the time of my internship.

Cathay also has other earlier funds, activities in LATAM or in Africa, a fund of funds or even a fund dedicated to blockchain and Web3.0.

I delved into the full spectrum of VC investing, from identifying startup opportunities to post-investment management..

Investment Analysis & Management:

• Helped the investment team manage the deal flow, sourcing start-ups and monitoring current fundraisings across various verticals of Cathay: B2B SaaS, Consumer, Fintech, Energy/Mobility, and Digital Health.
• Participated in the analysis of investment opportunities, from initial meetings with entrepreneurs to the final investment committee stages.
• Assisted in the production of investment memos.

Portfolio & Relationship Management:

• Supported monitoring our portfolio through financial and ESG reporting.
• Assisted teams responsible for relationships with our LPs, identifying intriguing deal flows for them.
• Engaged in market and trend studies to enhance collective knowledge and offer added value to our LPs. Focused especially on the Recommerce segment.

Other Funds & Specialized Tasks:

• Occasionally contributed to activities of other funds, such as Seed investment and LATAM.
